Living With Water
On November 18, we offered a course for 24 real estate professionals that earned participants 3 continuing education credits toward their license requirements in Maine and NH. The course focused on the theme of Living with Water and aimed to build appreciation for coastal habitats and their regulations and equip realtors with information and tools to help their clients understand flood hazards.
The goal was to spark interest and care for the ecosystems that surround seacoast homes and provide practical resources on wetlands, shorelands and water quality that could be shared with clients. Also to provide information on tides, flood zones and insurance that can help clients assess risks, prepare for risks preemptively and mitigate damage after impacts.

Partners included NH Sea Grant, Piscataqua Region Estuaries Program, NH Department of environmental Services Coastal Program, and Great Bay NERR. The team got a lot of support from the Seacoast Board of Realtors who managed registration and promotion, and also from Samonas Realty and Portsmouth Atlantic Insurance. We also had support from the Great Bay Stewards, who covered some of the event costs.

If you are interested in learning more, NH Sea Grant made a podcast about the effort – see Episode 4 of Time and Tide.

We enjoyed working with local real estate professionals, and supporting local homeowners by providing this type of education and training, and hope to do it again in the future.
