Please join us in welcoming Katie Brandler to the Great Bay NERR! She will be joining the research team this summer as a NOAA Hollings Undergraduate Scholar. Katie will be conducting independent field research on range expanding blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus) and their associated trophic impacts in Great Bay. She will also be participating in the several existing research projects and educational programs at the reserve.

A rising senior at Duke University, Katie is a Biology and Marine Science/Conservation double major with a Psychology minor. She is passionate about researching invasive species and their impacts to global biodiversity and biogeography.

Katie spent this past fall at the Duke University Marine Lab, where she studied how rafting marine debris can function as a dispersal mechanism for fouling invertebrate species in coastal North Carolina.

In her free time, Katie enjoys scuba diving, concerts, spending time with her pets, and bike riding.
