Ellie Petit is the newest member of the Great Bay NERR’s research team, joining us as a NOAA Hollings Undergraduate Scholar for a busy summer of fied research.
Ellie will be participating in many of the ongoing research projects at GBNERR and will conduct an independent research project this summer. She is a senior marine, freshwater, and estuarine biology major at the University of New Hampshire. She is particularly interested in aquaculture and fisheries science and plans to pursue this passion in her career.
In the past, she has conducted research on Vibrio pathogens in oysters from Great Bay, the presence of E. coli in Oyster River, and nitrogen and ammonium levels in a multi-trophic aquaculture system as a research assistant at the University of New Hampshire (UNH).
She spent the last semester in New Zealand studying local ecology and biodiversity, and focused on saltmarsh methane emissions for her research project.
In her free time, she enjoys sewing, knitting, and spending time outdoors, hiking, birding, and being by the water.
