Science Week is Back, with Bird Fest, August 10th–14th

Mark your calendars: Science Week returns to the Great Bay Discovery Center from August 10th–14th. Join us for five days of hands-on learning, birding adventures, and nature fun for people of all ages. Whether you’re an early riser hoping to spot a heron at sunrise or a family looking for a rainy-afternoon craft, there’s something for you.

Monday kicks off with Early Morning Birding at 8am, and we will have Open Barn hours Tuesday–Friday, 10am–4pm with discoveries, books, and community art. Throughout the week, also look for:

  • Games & crafts:  Bird Bingo, Bird Masks, Face Painting, Bird Bath Painting, and Bird Felting
  • Wildlife & science: Owl Pellet Dissection, a Birding Journal workshop, and a visit from Monadnock Falconry
  • Nature walks: Kids Birding, Kayak Birding, and Birding Like a Pro
  • Special evening programs, including Protecting Pollinators on Thursday at 5pm, and visits from Tailwinds and The Center for Wildlife on Friday

Many programs are free, but some do have a small fee.  All family friendly programs require a caregiver to stay with the kiddo(s). Also, the below programs require registration, regardless of price.  Please see the calendar below and the linked signups for more program details.

Bird Fest Science Week is hosted by the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, with support from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and The Dorr Foundation. It is a celebration of everything that makes Great Bay special,  from the marsh grasses to the ospreys overhead. Bring the kids, bring your binoculars, and come learn, explore, and celebrate birds with us!
