The Great Bay NERR’s own Chris Peter is an international award winner!

Chris Peter received a Visionary Award from the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment on May 27th in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The Council presents these awards to individuals in Canada and the United States whose work enhances the health and sustainability of the Gulf of Maine watershed. Visionary Awards specifically recognize outstanding innovation, creativity, and dedication to protecting natural resources.

As the Research Coordinator at the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Chris has led diverse teams on regional and national projects focused on understanding saltmarsh change and advancing monitoring and data analysis techniques. Saltmarshes are among the most productive and important coastal ecosystems, yet they are also highly vulnerable to changes in water levels and coastal development. Chris’s commitment to studying this critical habitat and his talent for bringing people together have earned him international recognition for his exceptional career.
