Westinghouse volunteers take a well deserved break on the new patio they just completed.
September 11th is a hard day, and making a positive impact on the community honors the day in a way that makes us all feel good about making a difference!
“Live United”, that is their motto, and the United Way of the Great Seacoast uses that to motivate volunteers in many ways, including the Day of Caring each September. The Great Bay Reserve has participated in the Day of Caring for 5 years by hosting a group of United Way volunteers at the Discovery Center property. Each year we have a very productive workday with a corporate group, and this year we were lucky to host Westinghouse Electric Company who brought enthusiasm and skills to the Discovery Center on September 11th.
The crew helped us build a new patio in our pollinator garden, repair a picnic table, remove invasives, beautify several gardens, and cut down saplings for a natural play area project which will be completed by another volunteer crew soon! The team worked so hard on the hottest day of the week, and made a big difference around the property…..come for a visit and sit on the patio in the pollinator garden and watch the bees and butterflies forage!

Westinghouse volunteers started their United Way Day of Caring in the woods, collecting saplings for the natural play area.
