Kelly Brooks, the new assistant stewardship coordinator, marking property boundaries, an important part of land protection and stewardship.
On the eastern shore of Great Bay are four agricultural fields that make up one of the largest open areas within the Reserve. These fields are an important part of local food production and, with the right stewardship, they also support wildlife.
We post boundaries to let everyone know they are on public land on which they can appreciate and explore nature. We also model other best practices for sustaining wildlife, including leaving standing corn on the edges of fields to provide food for waterfowl and delaying mowing of hay until after ground nesting birds have fledged from their nests.
